Basic island information
You can visit the island the whole year as there will be “365” days of sun, with an average temperature of 83F/28C. The high season starts at the beginning of November and will continue until the month of May, after the Carnival on the Dutch side.
For your internet access, you’ll find many places with Wi-FI. Or buy a local sim-card with internet access. For charging your phone use the US plug (110V) on the Dutch side, and / or the EU plug (220V) on the French side.
On both sides you can use the currencies of the US Dollar and the Euro. The Dutch side is using the US Dollar, the French side the Euro.
And with English, French, Dutch and Spanish languages you will find your way on SXM!
Festivals & parties
Did you know there are many festivals and parties on the island? Almost every week you can join one! From small events to the big annual festivals. We’ll recommend some of the events. And don’t forget to check the local papers / Facebook for all.
February and March, the Mardis de Grand Case will take place with food, music, parades and the local market on every Tuesday night.
First weekend of March you can enjoy the Heineken Regatta with the sailing competitions and the big music festival.
The SXM Festival. Five days of dance music on the beach with many dj’s on Happy Bay. In March.
Carnival on the Dutch side in April and May with parties, festival and the big parades. One of the biggest Carnival in East Caribbean.
Other great days for parties on both sides are the New Year’s Eve and the Day of Sint Maarten / Saint Martin on November 11th.
